Abyss

Fortune’s fool:

Tempted by mirages,

Half-empty promises,

And half-hearted enthusiasm.

Unrequited and unreciprocated

Emotion

Threaten to tear him apart.

It was

A storm born of his own misunderstanding.

Signs ignored on behalf of his own futile desire.

DANGER: TURN BACK

But he couldn’t because he was foolish enough to hope.

A joy to be comprehended

Was a joy too long unknown.

Instead, warm intentions will turn to cold solitude

As he finds himself torn asunder by the weight of his own expectation.

Drowning, he’ll struggle desperately

To find air amidst the water.

Deeper and deeper he’ll sink

Until he loses track of light.

Doomed, he sinks to an abyss that’s all too familiar.

Comfort is found in even the most bitter of defeats

Though it is a comfort most unwelcome;

A comfort born of unrealized potential.

Like a stone he sinks beneath his own hope.

Suspended in a voluminous blackness, he welcomes the growing pressure.

Still, his eyes search

Praying for some lost light to break the water’s hold.

Fortune’s fool:

Tempted by mirages.

Half-empty promises,

And half-hearted enthusiasm.

Unrequited and unreciprocated

Emotion

Threaten to tear him apart.

Confused chasing an image he thought he was meant to be

He loved himself

But

He never chose to love himself back
